Local AreaAreias Brancas is set among other similar holiday homes in this northerly point of the Joao Pessoa connurbation. The area is extremely friendly and life either centres around the swimming pools or on the white surf strewn sandy beach. A ten minute walk will bring you to the local Camacari supermarket where you can purchase all your daily and weekly needs. With the sea breezes blowing through the palm trees, and the hot sun beating down, it is the time to relax at the local beach bars where you can eat and drink until dusk. Our favourite is Jamila's, right on the beach just on the edge of Lucena village.
A pleasant walk in the late afternoon is northwards up the beach to a series of sea pools, formed by the river joining the sea. Inland by 500 metres you can explore an ancient church with a large tree growing through the middle of it, this is potentially the site of a future ecocentre village. Perhaps one of the best views is on your return with the setting orange sun slowly falling behind the palm tree plantations which fringe the beach for most of way.
Lucena: is the nearest village, really a small town with all you need for an extended stay at Areias Brancas. With about 6 supermarkets all specialising in something different, means you should never do without. There are also restaurants, bars, cafes, ice cream parlours, up market ladies clothes shops.... great for beach wear. Even a surfing shop where you can buy all the kit! A fascinating place with fresh fruit and vegetable markets, internet cafes et al....
A fifteen minute drive south brings you to the car ferry with regular hourly crossings to Cabadelo and the Trans Amazonian highway. This takes you to the centre of Joao Pessoa with its large hypermarkets, Carrefour and Walmart.
