What to do, where to go...This is the Dordogne and it is truely the culinary centre of France. We are lucky to have many excellent restaurants within a short drive of Lionheart House, and our favourite is the St Jean Hotel and Restaurant in the the small village of St Jean de Cole. However there are many more and the Logis de France Hotels in the area all have excellent Perigourdine menus. Just try their menu of the day and you will be pleasantly pleased with the standard of the food for the price paid.
This is also Richard the Lionheart country, with magnificent chateaux and car trails to follow his adventures. He died beseiging a castle in Chalus which is only 20 minutes away. Knights Templar have also left their mark here with old churches and other ancient relics. There is a large outdoor assualt course for adults and children 25 mins away called Acrobois. This is an excellent day out for active children and also has a lake for tired adults to relax around. In nearby Brantome, you can hire and canoe down a river. Elegant Brantome is also known as, Venice of Perigord as it is set in a beautiful riverside setting. Walking and cycling opportunities abound. Velorails are an enjoyable and safe experience for children as they are on converted railway lines. There are tennis courts 5 minutes away in Thiviers. Golf can also be found near to Limoges, and of course Perigeux, which itself is a beautiful University city. And don't forget our beautiful local Plan D'eau which has free access and is a great place for the kids to unwind!
